I hear something moving around in my attic, what do I do?: You may contact an exterminator or wildlife removal service. Sunnyvale Animal Control does provide live humane trap rentals to Sunnyvale residents. You may come to Town Hall and present a $50 deposit check, which will be returned when the trap is brought back. We will loan you a live humane trap for you to capture the animal. Our Animal Control Officer will assist you with the operation and baiting of the device and will pick up and relocate any animals captured.

1. Is there any way I can help out the shelter and animals?: Because of the small size of Sunnyvale’s impoundment facility there is no need for volunteers at this time. But, there are ways that you can help the animals, particularly through donations. There is always a need for blankets, towels, food, treats, and toys. If you are not sure what to bring, a gift certificate can be provided and used to get what the animals need. Any gift is of great help and tax deductible.

2. How many dogs can I have in Sunnyvale?: If you live on less than 2 acres of land you are allowed a maximum of 4 adult dogs and one litter of puppies at any given time.
If you live on more than 2 acres of land, there is no limitation on the number of dogs as long as the animals are properly confined to your property and provided with sufficient food, water, and shelter.

4. What are the fees and holding period if my animal is impounded?: Impoundment fee is $25. There is a fee of $7 for each day the animal is boarded at our facility. An animal will be held for at least seventy-two (72) hours, in an effort to find its owner before being placed for adoption. If there is reason to expect an owner to come forward, due to registration and/or other tags/collar, the waiting period will be extended before placing the animal as available for adoption. 5. Do you euthanize the animals?: Sunnyvale Animal Control is committed to finding unclaimed strays new homes. Each animal is evaluated by our Animal Control Officer, and if seen fit, is placed for adoption. There is no “time limit” for an animal to be adopted. Every effort will be made to find them their new family. If there is limited space the animal will be transferred to another shelter with a high adoption rate. Only in cases of extreme illness or aggression will an animal be humanely euthanized.
