If you receive a citation for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (FMFR) you must show proof to the court that insurance was in effect on the day your received your citation.
If you were not covered by insurance you will need to appear on your court date to ask the Judge for possible options that would keep your record clear. A conviction of failure to prove current insurance will be reported to the Department of Public Safety and appear on your driving record.
If you have one insurance violation on your driving record and receive a second, your license can be suspended. You will be charged a surcharge fee to keep your license valid.
