As you may already be aware, the above referenced zoning case has recently been reactivated within the City of Dallas municipal process. The developer (D.R.Horton) originally requested a zoning change from Agricultural Use to a Mixed Use development on the 267-acre tract at the northeast corner of Barnes Bridge Road and Bobtown Road (in the City of Dallas). This request was for a mixed use of high density residential (town homes and apartments), and retail/commercial use. As you may recall, in October of 2007 the Dallas Plan Commission tabled this zoning change request indefinitely.
This item was once again on the February 28 agenda of the Dallas Plan Commission, where the Commission denied the zoning change request 'without prejudice', which allows the developer to submit a new application with no waiting period. The developer indicated plans to reapply to the City of Dallas in the form of a Planned Development for the project. The Town has conveyed concerns to the City of Dallas related to traffic impacts, density compatibility, and overall provision of services. There are still several unanswered questions regarding utilities and issues such as police and fire protection, animal control, solid waste collection, etc.
The Town will continue to monitor the progress of this zoning change request and post updates as more information becomes available.
